BA Continues Working Toward Carbon Offsetting Goal
British Airways has set the noble goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by the year 2050. The airline has already invested heavily in renewable energy and verified carbon-reducing projects throughout the world.
In 2020, BA is now placing its attention on offsetting the carbon footprint it creates with its UK-domestic flights, specifically between London and ten UK cities, including Manchester, Edinburgh, and Belfast. Using a combination of sustainable fuel, more efficient aircraft and retooled operating procedures, the airline hopes to reset its carbon output at home.
BA also extends the ability to offset carbon emissions to its passengers. Travelers flying on British Airways outside of the United Kingdom can offset their personal carbon footprint through an online tool where passengers can invest in carbon-reducing initiatives in Cambodia, Peru, and Sudan through Pure Leapfrog, a non-profit charity organization. In doing so, BA passengers would essentially be “neutralizing” the carbon footprint that their seat on an international flight would create.
